Research conducted by J.D. Power shows that consumer awareness of carbon-mitigating initiatives undertaken by utilities continues to be very low.
Research also shows that most customers believe climate change is a serious issue and that the many utilities have taken steps towards mitigating their environmental impact.
In fact, utilities are no longer the top producers of carbon emissions in America (transportation now holds that distinction) and some utilities are embracing their commitment to sustainability through public promotions, certifications, and other outreach.
We understand that sustainability initiatives and customer awareness of these initiatives are important, so what is creating this disconnect between perception and reality? Why aren't more customers aware of the sustainability efforts of their utilities?
There are numerous reasons, but three key myths may be behind many of them.
