The J.D. Power U.S. Tech Experience Index (TXI) Study has measured problems encountered and the user experience with advanced vehicle technologies as they first enter the market for 10 years. Throughout that decade, J.D. Power has supported automakers in understanding user experiences across more than 100 advanced technologies.
Ahead of the 10th annual study publish, we've rounded up five key lessons learned throughout the history of the study.
- Recognition Technologies create more issues than benefits, including Interior Gesture Controls, Fingerprint Reader and Facial Recognition.
- Unused technologies come with a high cost! We watched this unfold with the rollout of Auto Parking / Remote Parking Assistance—automakers spent millions bringing this technology to market, but consumers don’t want it or use it.
- Passenger Screens are classified as “Not Necessary” by consumers.
- We’ve tracked the rapid growth of key technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—watching them become “Must Have” technology in just a few short years.
- For 10 years, TXI has shown that consumers primarily value ADAS capabilities that truly assist the driver in overcoming known concerns, such as visual blind spots when changing lanes or backing up. Other ADAS features underperform as drivers feel they can manage without them.
2025 TXI data is coming soon! TXI releases to subscribing clients on Wednesday, August 20, to be followed by a public press release featuring high-level findings and brand rankings on Thursday, August 21.
